KOTA KINABALU: Football greats Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar may have found their match in a Malaysian.
Hong Yi has brought the beautiful game on the pitch to life by doing what she does best – creating a beautiful portraits of the three players, using nothing but a football.
To add a further twist to her craft, Hong Yi, who has made a name for herself with her creations, used only her feet to paint the World Cup stars.
The Sabah-born architect, who is now based in Shanghai, shot to international fame for her art pieces of famous people using unconventional tools.
This time around, she used her feet and a ball to paint the players a feat that were seen in a video uploaded on YouTube (http://youtu.be/Y-5Ur0Y7BmA).
“I just wanted to pay tribute to these World Cup heroes. It took me 10 hours to complete it, just in time for the World Cup opening. It’s a goal!” she said via e-mail.
Hong Yi, who goes by the nickname Red Hong, has been widely praised by over 640,000 viewers, some of whom described her feat as good as a footballer dribbling his way through a football game.
Hong Yi said that she was supporting The Netherlands for the World Cup.
“I am supporting The Netherlands for the World Cup because I studied there in 2010, during the last World Cup (and) I love the Dutch!” she said.
