Housewife accused of terror

KUALA LUMPUR: A housewife was charged in a magistrate’s court here with two counts of supporting terrorist activities via Facebook.

She was among four people charged with having terrorist links in various courts.

Azizah Md Yusof, 54, (pic) is alleged to have used a Facebook account under her name and several others to commit the offence.

The pint-sized woman, wearing a red tudung, red long-sleeved shirt and jeans, merely nodded to acknowledge that she understood the charge when it was read to her.

No plea was recorded.

Azizah was arrested under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 on April 28.

She faces life imprisonment or up to 30 years in jail, a fine or confiscation of any assets used for terrorist activities.

DPP Muhamad Iskandar Ahmad urged the magistrate to expedite proceedings to get the case transferred to the High Court.

Magistrate Erry Shahriman Nor Aripin then fixed May 30 for the next mention of the case.

Azizah was later seen saying goodbye to family members as she was led away to the court lock-up.

In the Taiping magistrate’s court, two others were also charged.

Mohd Armie Fatihah Mohamad Hashim, 22, and Mohd Hafiz Zahri Suparyatnoh, 28, were charged with inciting and encouraging or securing funding for terrorist acts under Section 130G of the Penal Code.

Their pleas were not recorded.

In the Port Dickson magistrate’s court, a fourth member of a militant group, Mohd Khairil Mi, 27, was charged with the same offence.

The four were among 12 militants arrested in multiple raids, starting on April 28 by the Bukit Aman Special Branch Counter Terrorism Division.
