Josiah Ng recuperating after crashing in keirin at Track World Cup round in Mexico

PETALING JAYA: National track cyclist Josiah Ng suffered broken ribs, collarbone and punctured his lungs after a crash in the keirin event at the Track World Cup round in Aguascalientes, Mexico.

Josiah, a three-time Olympian for Malaysia, was involved in a crash in the first round of keirin where he battled alongside team-mate Azizulhasni Awang in the second heat. Azizulhasni, however, was not involved in the crash and went on to finish sixth in the final.

Josiah is currently recuperating at the CMQ MAC hospital near Aguascalientes.

According to Josiah's wife Kim Ong, she was able to speak to him and the cyclist is in stable condition.

Josiah was also able to post a message in his official Facebook page.

"Hola (Hello) from my Mexican hospital! I'm a little woozy right now but I'm ok. A couple of broken ribs and also my collarbone. Thank goodness I'm alive!," it says.

The World Cup round in Aguascalientes is the second of three, which started with Manchester last month. The next round will be held in Guadalajara, Mexico from Jan 17-19.
