KUALA BESUT: Communication and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek welcomed the formation of SEMUT or Sensible and Ethical Malaysians United Troopers by a group of civic conscious citizens.
He said it was not easy to monitor postings that go overboard on social websites because of the vastness and layers of cyberspace, hence the initiative should be lauded.
"Cyber crimes can run in the thousands but the number of police personnel to monitor cyberspace is limited. Thus we welcome the formation of SEMUT," he said at a community function in Kampung Alor Pisang here.He advised social website users to practise self-censorship and not to resort to crime or hurt other people's sensitivities using the cyberspace medium.
SEMUT has lodged two police reports against two Facebook users for posting sensitive comments about the Prophet Muhammad and Yang di-Pertuan Agong. - Bernama
