THIS year I have a new Christmas tree. The old one had served me well for almost a decade and survived several episodes of very unprofessional house moving.
But after my daughters pointed out the many “bald” patches on the tree which could no longer be camouflaged by any amount of trimmings, and the fact that my much loved tree was now literally bent over with age, I had no choice but to go out and get a new tree.
