SIBU: The Sibu 2017 Tower Run, the first of its kind to be organised in Sarwak, will see 300 participants climbing 627 steps up the 28-storey Wisma Sanyan, the state’s tallest building.

Co-organising chairman and town councillor Wong Hie Ping said the run was among events organised by Sibu Municipal Council for Visit Sibu Year 2017.

“It will be held on March 11. Registration is opened now, so grab the chance to participate,” she said at a press conference.

Another co-organiser, Danny Hii, said the event was divided into four categories – Men’s Open, Women’s Open, Men’s Veteran and Women’s Veteran.

“Those interested can register at www.travelsibu.com and pay an entry fee of RM100. Every participant will receive a specially designed medal to commemorate the event,” he said.

Only 300 participants would be selected for the tower run to avoid overcrowding, he added.

Participants must run 5km around the Sibu town square before running up the stairs to the 28th floor of Wisma Sanyan,” Hii said.

“There are 10 prizes for each category. Category champion stands to receive RM1,000, second RM500, third RM300, fourth and fifth RM100. Those finishing from sixth to 10places will receive RM60 each,” he added.
