KUALA LUMPUR: The tabling of the White Paper on the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) has been postponed to next year due to certain legal issues needed to be resolved first.
Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said the Cabinet had agreed the tabling of the White Paper, which was scheduled to be tabled to Parliament on Monday, had to be postponed to the first meeting of the second session of the 14th Parliament (2019).
He said the minisry had worked closely with Felda to prepare a White Paper to get an in-depth picture of the crisis surrounding Felda.
“A clear picture will help the ministry and the new management of Felda frame a sustainable way forward for the recovery of Felda,” he said.
Azmin said the ministry was committed to table a comprehensive and credible White Paper.
However, the ministry was advised by the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) to reconsider the proposed tabling of the White Paper.
“AGC is of the view that certain legal issues need to be resolved before the White Paper can be tabled in Parliament.
“The ministry takes the views of the AGC seriously and decided to seek the opinion of Cabinet,” he said.
