Bank Rakyat chairman removed with immediate effect over 1MDB

The Entrepreneur Development Minister had removed Tan Sri Shukry Mohd Salleh as the Bank Rakyat board chairman with immediate effect.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Entrepreneur Development Minister had removed Tan Sri Shukry Mohd Salleh as the Bank Rakyat board chairman with immediate effect.

In a statement issued on Monday, it said the removal was due to his involvement in the original audit report of the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

Hence, whatever decision which Shukry had made during his tenure as the Bank Rakyat board chairman, and which could have implications on the bank, would be reviewed and cancelled if it affects the interest of the bank

The statement said the minister would announce his replacement once it has been finalised.

Shukry was the principal private secretary to the former prime minister Datuk Seri Najjib Tun Razak prior to the appointment to Bank Rakyat on Jan 3, 2017.

Among the posts Syukry held previously were head of the Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department, general manager of the South Kelantan Development Authority, director of the Kelantan Development Office, director of the Perak Registration Department, secretary of the Sabah State Security Committee, and Assistant Secretary of the Defence Ministry.
