Utusan appoints Abdul Aziz Sheikh Fadzir as executive chairman

PETALING JAYA: Former Member of Parliament for Kulim-Bandar Baru Datuk Abd Aziz Sheikh Fadzir has been appointed as executive chairman of loss-making Utusan Melayu (M) Bhd.

He takes over from Tan Sri Mohamad Fatmi Che Salleh who resigned on May 15 as non-executive chairman. Fatmi resigned together with four other directors of the Umno-controlled newspaper group.

The four who resigned between May 12 and May 15 are Datuk Seri Tengku Sarifuddin Tengku Ahmad, Datuk Md Afendi Hamdan, Mohd Yusof Abu Othman and Jamalul Kiram Mohd Zakaria.

The changes in Utusan comes amidst a change in the leadership of Umno. Datuk Seri Dr Zahid Hamidi is the acting president of the party following the resignation of Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak after Barisan Nasional’s disastrous performance in the general election.

Aziz is a former Umno deputy Youth leader. However he has been more active in the corporate world since 2005. He is currently on board of Gold Bridge Engineering & Construction Bhd and executive chairman of plantation group Kretam Holdings Bhd.
