KUALA LUMPUR: The natural gas tariffs for the non-power sector in Peninsular Malaysia will increase by an average of 17.11%, or RM3.73, to RM25.53 per mmBtu (million British thermal units) for the first half of next year.
Gas Malaysia told Bursa Malaysia that this revision from was in line with the national rationalisation plan whereby the price of piped gas would be adjusted every six months with the implementation of the gas cost pass through (GCPT) mechanism.
The selling prices to the residential sector will remain unchanged.
However, other non-power sectors using up to 600 mmBTu annually will see a tariff rise of RM3.48 to RM23.78 per mmBtu.
Those consuming 601-5,000 mmBTu and 5,001-50,000 mmBtu will have to pay 17.2% higher to RM23.90 and RM24.14 respectively.
For consumers of over 750,000, the tariff has been revised to RM26.03 per mmBtu from RM22.22 per mmBtu.
Earlier this month, the Government had announced that the price of piped gas for the power sector in Peninsular Malaysia would be increased by RM1.50 per mmBtu to RM18.20 mmBtu for the January-July 2016 period.
Gas Malaysia shares closed unchanged at RM2.24 on Tuesday.
