Investigate the teacher, not the student

I WAS appalled to read the article “Student who liked posting under sedition probe” (The Star, Aug 14 ).

Firstly, the student should not be probed or penalised for something he has “liked” on a social media. Liking something in a social media is not condoning the content of the page.

Secondly, our school children are not adequately taught anything pertaining to cyber ethics. Therefore they are not aware of the consequences of liking a page especially that has political or hidden agenda.

Thirdly, I strongly feel that the teacher who captured a screenshot of the student’s post and circulated it in her own account has violated fundamental cyber laws.

One is not allowed to circulate something that does not belong to him or her. Therefore, it’s the teacher who should be investigated under the Sedition Act not the student.
