CIMB Group chairman Datuk Seri Nazir Razak, the youngest brother of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, said instead of suspension, legal action could have been a better way to deal with the issue.
Nazir posted a logo of The Edge on his Instagram page on Friday with the caption "The Edge is a pillar of our business community- big role in keeping us informed, honest & competitive”.
“Recent 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) coverage seem outstanding but if there were flaws then correct them or take legal recourse.
“I condemn the suspension & my thoughts go to all affected staff,” Nazir said.
AirAsia chief executive Tan Sri Tony Fernandes, among those who commented on Nazir's post, said freedom of the press is the pillar of democracy.
“There are other recourse if reporting is wrong. Sad day, I’m in shock,” Fernandes said.
The Home Ministry suspended the publishing permit of The Edge Weekly and The Edge Financial Daily for three months from July 27.
The Edge said in a statement that the suspension was due to its reporting on 1MDB.
