Youth unemployment rate greatly reduced by apprenticeship programme

SHAH ALAM: The Apprenticeship Scheme introduced by the Government to increase the number of skilled workers in the country has significantly reduced the unemployment rate among youths, Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Richard Riot (pic) said.

He said the scheme, introduced in 1996 through the ministry’s Human Resource Development Fund (HRDF), was a great success as about 80% of youths who had participated in the training programmes were employed now and earning an income of at least RM1,200 a month.
