PM: Dialogues must be held in peaceful atmosphere

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said he is prepared to hold dialogues with non-governmental groups as long as the meetings are conducted in a calm and peaceful manner.

In reference to yesterday’s cancelled Nothing2Hide dialogue with NGOs, he said he remained ready and committed to discuss the people’s concerns.

“However, such gatherings and dialogues must be held in an atmosphere that is peaceful and good. This is to allow discussions that can be beneficial to us all,” he said in a Facebook posting.

“If we are sincere and open, then dialogues and discussions can bring us mutual benefit.”

The Prime Minister’s Office had earlier issued a statement saying that it had been informed by the organiser of the dialogue that the event had to be postponed on the instruction of the Inspector-General of Police.

“This is due to security considerations at the location. Following the advice and order by the IGP, the Prime Minister is not able to attend this programme,” read the Facebook page of the Prime Minister’s Office.

The dialogue at Putra World Trade Centre was scheduled to start at 10am yesterday.

At 8.53am, however, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar tweeted that the event had to be called off.
