GEORGE TOWN: The operator of a famous nasi kandar restaurant, which is in hot soup for allegedly overcharging, says a cashier’s error caused the controversy.
A customer complained to enforcement officers that he paid RM20 for five pieces of lady’s finger at the Original Kayu Nasi Kandar outlet in Bukit Jambul on Saturday.
The restaurant chain’s managing director Burhan Mohamed said the cashier accidentally typed “RM4 x 5” for the lady’s finger, instead of 40sen per lady’s finger. He said the total price for four pieces of the vegetable should actually be RM2.
“We will gladly refund the balance to the customer.’’
Burhan said the restaurant took pains to ensure cleanliness and customer comfort, with a fully air-conditioned outlet and spending RM1,000 a month on just cleaning liquid.
“Customers must understand all these costs we have to incur. One customer can use four to five tissues per meal,’’ he said.
Burhan, who met with an enforcement team from the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry at the restaurant yesterday, said he had explained the matter to the officers.
He said that as a safeguard, the restaurant would include a “check your bill” reminder in every printed receipt.
Enforcement officer Noorhusna Sharuddin said the ministry had been checking food outlets after GST was enforced.
