Floods in Kelantan, Terengganu worsen

KOTA BARU: The number of flood victims in Kelantan continues to rise to 6,693 people Thursday evening.

According to the Kelantan government portal, all the victims are housed at 71 relief centres in all 10 districts, namely Jeli, Kota Baru, Kuala Krai, Machang, Pasir Mas, Tanah Merah, Kuala Krai, Gua Musang, Tumpat and Bachok.

As at 3pm, the water levels in six rivers were at the danger point.

Sungai Golok at Jenob, in Tanah Merah, recorded reading of 23.59m (danger level - 23.50m) while Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang, the level was at 10.76m (9.00m).

The water level of Sungai Kelantan at Tambatan Diraja, has reached 5.39m, at Tangga Krai, Kuala Krai 26.71m and at Jambatan Guillemard, Tanah Merah 17.94m, all above the danger levels.

The water level in Sungai Lebir at Gua Musang was at 36.48m, above the danger level of 35m.

In TERENGGANU the flood situation worsened with the number of evacuees rising to 4,581 at noon.

According to the Terengganu National Security Council (MKN) portal, 1,269 families were affected by floods this evening.

Terengganu deputy police chief Datuk Hashim Abd. Jalil said more than 200 police personnel were mobilised to help victims in the affected districts.

He said the six districts were Kemaman, Hulu Terengganu, Besut, Setiu, Dungun and Kuala Terengganu.
"We have back-up teams to assist should the floods worsen," he said at a press conference held at the state police contingent headquarters, here, today. - Bernama
