KUCHING: Another victim of the Selantik coal mine blast has passed away, bringing the death toll to four.
Indonesian Acmad Zidin, 27, succumbed to injury at 6.30pm on Tuesday at the Sarawak General Hospital, according to state health director Datuk Dr Zulkifli Jantan.
Acmad, who had been admitted at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), died of severe brain injury.
Three workers died at the scene of the explosion at the mine in Pantu, Sri Aman, 130km from here, last Saturday, while 30 were injured in the incident.
The deceased were identified as Tun Tun Win, 36, from Myanmar, North Korean Pang Chung-hyok, 29, and Indonesian Kardianto, 38.
The coal mine, located about 3km from the Kuching-Sri Aman main road, began operations eight years ago.
It has 119 workers and the majority of its workers - 49 - are North Koreans.
The others are Myanmar nationals (29), Indonesians (19), Chinese nationals (15) and Bangladeshis (10).
The Selantik coal mine is currently sealed due to high levels of methane and flooding in the lower passages.
