A 35-year-old grocery shop owner claimed he had lost over RM110,000 to his online girlfriend whom he has never met during their eightmonth courtship, reported Guang Ming Daily.

The victim, known only as Shen from Mentakab, said he obtained information about the woman
through a smartphone application.

The woman, who claimed to be also from Mentakab, kept asking him to lend her money for various
reasons, including to pay the medical fees of her sick mother.

“She said if I did not help her, she would be forced to be a prostitute so I banked in RM15,000 for her in July last year,” he said.

He said the woman stopped contacting him in April and only then did he finally accept the fact that he
had been cheated.

> The controversial emergency general meeting called by the United Chinese School  Committees Association of Malaysia (Dong Zong) continues to be extensively covered by the Chinese newspapers.

Several parties slammed Dong Zong chairman Yap Sin Tian for invoking his power to call for the EGM, scheduled for Dec 7, to discuss whether to allow SM Chong Hwa Kuantan to conduct the Unified
Examination Certificate examination (UEC).

Critics have said that Dong Zong should not call for the EGM when the education board under the
Dong Jiao Zong independent schools working committee had been tasked to study it, reported Sin Chew Daily.

Board members accused Yap of disrespecting them when they were still investigating the matter.

Working committee deputy chairman Ong Chiow Chuen said Yap should call for an emergency meeting
to explain why he called the EGM before the board could submit its report.

SM Chong Hwa Kuantan principal Chim Yaw Fei said Dong Zong should not drag the school into the dispute.
