Thousands throng church to witness ordination of Father Julian as Archbishop of Kuala Lumpur

KAJANG: Thousands of the faithful thronged the Church of the Holy Family here on Monday to witness the ordination of the Most Rev Father Julian Leow Beng Kim as the fourth Archbishop of Kuala Lumpur.

The church began to fill up as early as 7am as many came to see the historic and solemn ceremony scheduled at 10am.

Some 12,000 people came from around the country to witness Fr Julian receiving his Apostolic Letter of appointment signed by Pope Francis during the Ordination Mass presided by Vatican's Apostolic Nuncio to Malaysia Archbishop Joseph S. Marino.

A combined choir, headed by choirmaster Rev Father Gregory Chan, led the congregation.

Fr Julian, 50, was appointed by the Holy See on July 3, replacing Archbishop Emeritus Tan Sri Murphy Pakiam, who retired in December last year after serving the post for a decade.

Foreign dignitaries and representatives from inter-religious council were also invited to witness the ceremony.
