KULIM: A charity organisation here says self-proclaimed “future richest man in the world” Zhang Jian has pledged to donate RM1.2mil to it.
Batu Grace Children Home founder Solomon B.G. Rajanthren said the money was to buy the five houses that are currently being used by the home.
“I’ve already received RM432,000, which was used to buy the first two units,” he told reporters after receiving a mock cheque for the RM1.2mil from CDTUP International Sdn Bhd international marketing consultant Tony Mathavan here yesterday.
The trading company is owned by Zhang, a Chinese national conducting business in Malaysia.
Rajanthren said Zhang, who was supposed to be in Kulim for the cheque presentation yesterday, could not come because he had to attend to commitments in Kuala Lumpur.
The home has 110 residents, including 89 children and six single mothers.
Rajanthren said he met Zhang at a meeting set up by the businessman’s personal adviser Jessie Lai and Mathavan at Sri Petaling in Kuala Lumpur about three weeks ago.
“I told him about the home’s needs, and he offered to donate the money to the home,” he said.
Mathavan said the controversy surrounding Zhang arose because Yun Shu Mao (YSLM) was alleged to be running a get-rich-quick scheme.
“YSLM is a brand name the company trades on. The registered company, however, is CDTUP International,” he said.
“This was why when the government agencies carried out checks – they found out that YSLM was without a licence,” he said.
Mathavan said they had since corrected the situation and stopped using YSLM as their trading company.
