Investigating officer nabbed over RM750 bribe

NIBONG TEBAL: A female police sergeant was arrested at the Jawi Court here for allegedly soliciting and accepting a bribe on Monday.

The 36-year-old was arrested while accepting RM750 from a man as an inducement to release his friend who was under remand.

The policewoman, believed to be the investigating officer in the case involving the man's friend, had promised to release the suspect if he paid her a sum of money. 

The Penang Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission carried out further investigation and managed to arrest the woman at the court.

Penang MACC director Datuk M.Samarajoo, when contacted, confirmed the arrest, but refused to make further comment.

 "Yes, we have arrested a policewoman and further investigation is being done. So, I cannot make any further comment," he said. - Bernama
