KUALA LUMPUR: A 48-year-old detainee with six previous cases of drug abuse has died while in custody at the Jinjang police station lock-up.
Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Zakaria Pagan said that Morgan Arjunan was found dead with froth around his mouth in one of the cells at 12.45am yesterday.
“Paramedics from Selayang Hospital arrived between 1.20am and 1.30am. Morgan was pronounced dead after a thorough check,” he said.
ACP Zakaria added that a coroner, a medical officer and a police forensics team conducted another examination on Morgan’s body between 8am and 9.45am.
“They found no external injuries on the body, which was sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for an autopsy.
“Post-mortem results revealed that Morgan died from an infection.
“There were no criminal elements in his death,” he said, adding that the case had been classified as sudden death.
ACP Zakaria explained that police had informed Morgan’s family of his death.
Morgan, who lived at Metro Prima, Kepong, had been arrested on April 8 under Section 3 (1) of the Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983 for drug abuse.
He was supposed to be under remand until April 20.
