Chemical spill causes road closure near Temerloh

TEMERLOH: Several containers of chemicals from the Lynas rare earth plant fell off a trailer causing part of a road here to be closed for several hours.

Temerloh OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Aziz Salleh said 13 of the 15 containers fell off the trailer's side while being transported to Port Klang.

"Four of them broke causing the NdPr chloride solution to spill onto the road at Km149 of Jalan Kuantan-Kuala Lumpur near Kampung Sungai Kepong at about 9am," he said here yesterday.

ACP Abdul Aziz said the chemical solution was not dangerous but could cause skin irritation.

He said the Fire and Rescue Department, the police, Environment Department and a team from Lynas had acted quickly to contain the spill and the scene was cleaned up by 2pm.

ACP Abdul Aziz said the police had issued a summons to the 40-year-old driver for carelessness causing load to fell off a vehicle.
