Angry mob beats up suspected car thief

PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested a suspected car thief who was beaten up by his angry captors. 

In the incident caught on video, the Sabahan was nabbed and bound by a mob for attempting to steal a car in a Klang hypermarket’s parking lot, although his accomplice escaped.

South Klang OCPD Asst Comm Kamarul Zaman Mamat said the man was arrested near the hypermarket in Bukit Tinggi on Sunday.

“The man and an accomplice tried breaking into a car at the supermarket’s parking lot.

“They were stopped by a few passers-by who caught them in the act,” said ACP Kamarul Zaman.

He added that the man then started attacking the passers-by with a stick.

“One of them was struck in the head,” ACP Kamarul Zaman added.

He said the passers-by managed to subdue the man and bound him.

“Unfortunately, his accomplice fled the scene before anyone could catch him,” said ACP Kamarul Zaman.

A security guard is seen trying to prevent them from hitting the man.

“The suspect was remanded and brought to the Klang police station to assist in investigations,” ACP Kamarul Zaman added.
