STING to combat local and international drug syndicates

KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman’s newly formed Special Tactics and Intelligence Narcotics Group (STING) is being tasked with going after drug kingpins as well as local and international drug smuggling syndicates.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the elite force, made up of about 200 highly-trained personnel would be targeting the “sharks” of the drug trade and not small time players.

“The squad is part of our vision in curbing drug related activities and crimes in the country.

“We are confident the days for the kingpins and smuggling syndicates are numbered with the forming of this new squad,” he told a press conference after launching STING at the police training centre (Pulapol) here Thursday.

He added that STING had given the police a big boost in the war against drugs in the country.

“We have high hopes for this special squad,” he said.
