All set to soar: Najib, along with (from left) Shahrizat, Muhyiddin, Dr Chua, Koh and Kayveas launching the ‘blue wave’
among the Wanita Barisan members at the Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur.
KUALA LUMPUR: Election fever is heating up among Wanita Barisan Nasional members as the Prime Minister gave another strong hint that it is coming very soon.
“There is no need to wait for the sign, It is almost near. Nak pecah tu (It is about to break),” he said, referring to the earlier speech by Wanita Barisan chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil who likened the impending general election to a pregnant woman's water that is about to break.
Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak also recognised and appreciated the wing's contribution, which he said was crucial for the election.
“The machinery is going down to the ground, to every corner to meet the people,” he said.
“They will turn the political landscape into blue. Today, I give them the signal to move forward and continue with the effort. We place high hopes on them.
“We really appreciate their contribution and will repay their goodwill. They are our army,” he said to cheers from the crowd at the gathering of the Wanita Barisan machinery here.
Najib later flagged off the Wanita Barisan machinery vehicles and placed the “blue wave” stickers on them.
Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Cabinet members as well as leaders from component parties including from Umno, MCA, MIC, Gerakan and PPP.
Najib expressed confidence that history would be created for the coalition this year, adding that Wanita Barisan members would help spread the word that the Government was one that kept its promises, unlike the Opposition.
Shahrizat said they were intensifying the machinery's efforts on the ground even as the election drew near.
”We are the backbone of Barisan. We are the peace and unity keepers for the upcoming general election. We will turn the nation blue.
“We want politics that will bring stability to the country. We want unity to continue. As mothers, we do not want politics that bring destruction to the country,” she added.
The “blue wave”, she added, was not only for the mothers but also for the younger generation whom she urged to join in to ensure the country's stability.
MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek also recognised the important role that the Wanita Barisan played in the election, including going to the ground and from house-to-house during the campaign period and spreading the “blue wave”.
“Barisan has always been emphasising on the blue wave'. The Wanita plays an important role in the election.
“Having a united Wanita Barisan is very important to our machinery,” he added.
Gerakan president Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon acknowledged that Wanita Barisan was the backbone of the campaign while PPP president Datuk Seri M. Kayveas said the coalition's support base had always been the women.
