BUDDHISTS gathered at the Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple in Sentul, Kuala Lumpur to pray for Malaysia’s wellbeing in conjunction with the upcoming 57th National Day.
This programme, “Pray for Malaysia” is aimed at building solidarity among Malaysians.
“This is the first time various religious institutions are participating in the programme organised by the Multimedia (MCMC) and Communcations Ministry and Special Affairs Department (Jasa) with support from the Government.” said Jasa officer Lechmanan P. Katamutu.
“We are gathered here today to pray for unity, tolerance, peace, harmony, kindness and love among Malaysians regardless of their backgrounds.
“We have a responsibility to make Malaysia a better place for all people from different backgrounds,” said Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple chief monk Bhante B. Sri Saranankara Nayaka Maha Thera.
Also present was Sri Lanka High Commissioner Ibrahim Sahib Ansar.
“I am delighted to be present at this blessed occasion, to pray for the well being of the country and further strengthening ties with Malaysia and her people,” he said.
Lechmanan said five major religions — Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity and Sikhism — hosted the programme in their respective places of worship across the Klang Valley over two days recently.
“We plan to gather the five major religious institutions in one place to pray for Malaysia in the near future,”
“But it will need consent of the religious leaders in order to make this dream a reality,” he added.
Lechmanan also confirmed that the “Pray for Malaysia” programme will be conducted annually.
