Taman Yarl residents object to condo plan

SEVERAL Taman Yarl residents are protesting against a proposed 21-storey condominium along Jalan Awan Selimpat, Kuala Lumpur.

Siva Ahnantham, 58, said if approved, the high-rise condominium would increase the population density to 322 residents per acre (0.4ha).

“If this project gets the green light from Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), I am concerned that more residential projects will come up here.

“This is supposed to be a low-density area with a population of 60 residents per acre (0.4ha) but this was not gazetted back then.

“We fear this project will lead to other problems, including increased traffic and congestion in the area,” he said.

Siva also claimed that flyers were given out on the project although there was no Advertising Permit approval number.

“Although the flyers did not specify the location of the condominium, I believe it is referring to the project here,” he said.

It is learnt the proposed project would be built on a 0.48ha plot of land and would comprise 83 condominiums and five penthouses ranging from 2,000 to 6,000 sq ft per unit.

A real estate agent was spotted promoting the project to a potential buyer at the site.

Ravi Doraisamy, 42, who lived behind the proposed luxury condominium on Jalan Awan Gelugor, said the condominium would decrease the value of property.

“I moved here two-and-a half years ago and the proposed condominium will block the view from my bungalow.

“I think the empty land are bungalow lots and not suitable for a high-rise condominium.

“More cars will be using the narrow roads and worsen traffic congestion here,” he said.

A resident, who did not want to be named, said initially serviced apartments were proposed there but it was rejected about three years ago.

A letter of objection was sent to DBKL on March 19 while the objection hearing would be held at 10am on June 4 at Menara DBKL1.

When contacted, a spokesman from DBKL confirmed that no approval or development order were issued for a 21-storey condominium at the site.

“Stakeholders should follow the procedures and give their opinions at the hearing.

“The developer cannot start construction without the development order and before the public hearing, as it is against the law,” he said.
