Congrats: DCP Ismail (in brown shirt) presenting the Johor Police Chief Cup to the netball team.
PASIR GUDANG: Johor police will continue with the Ops Cantas operations and its main focus now is to clear the state of snatch thieves.
State deputy police chief Datuk Ismail Yatim said police were not going to rest on their laurels in combating crimes despite improved results from the operations.
He said police would beef up their operations to reduce the crime rates in the state especially in the Johor Baru district and to ensure that Johor remained a safe place for all.
“We urge members of the public to continue giving their full cooperation to us as crime prevention does not fall on the shoulders of the police force only,” said DCP Ismail.
He said that combating crime was a two-way effort and accurate information given by the public was important as it could lead to the arrest of criminals.
DCP Ismail said this to reporters at the final of the Johor Police Chief Cup netball tournament held at the Indoor Stadium here recently.
Fourteen teams from the Johor police districts took part in the event – they were the Johor Police Contingent, Johor Baru South, Johor Baru North, Batu Pahat, Pontian, Muar, Nusajaya, Kulaijaya, Segamat, Kota Tinggi, Ledang, Seri Alam, Mersing and Kluang.
The Johor Police contingent scored 26 points to emerge a champions beating Johor Baru South team. Seri Alam and the Johor Baru North were declared joint third.
“We also have set up the Ops Cantas Wanita team and will deploy them when necessary,” he said adding that the team made up of policewomen would handle crime cases related to the fairer sex.
Ops Cantas was launched in Aug 17, last year after a series of gun-related violence had terrorized the country with several deaths cases reported involving underworld gang members.
Earlier, in his speech DCP Ismail said the event was a good avenue for policewomen from all the 14 police districts to know each other and foster friendship among them.
He advised Johor police personnel to keep fit and healthy by engaging in sport activities as it was important for them to be in a good shape all time in their duties.
