IN 2011, I sold my beloved Proton Waja. It was a tough decision considering it was the only car I had ever paid for, and I was only going to be away for a year. In the end, it proved to be the right choice.

Having spent a year in London, I had gotten used to taking public transport. So when I eventually returned to Malaysia in early 2013, I did not have plans to buy another car.
