Sony cuts profit estimate by 9.4% on weaker smartphone demand

Costly wait: Sony says it might consider selling off its smartphone unit if it still makes a loss next year.

TOKYO: Japanese electronics firm Sony Corp cut its profit estimate by 9.4% for the financial year that ended in March, as slowing global smartphone sales dented demand for its camera modules.

Sony said on April 21 it is estimating an operating profit of 290bil yen (RM10.22bil) for the year, down from a previously estimated 320bil yen (RM11.28bil), citing weaker demand for camera modules.
