PETALING JAYA: Malaysian Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) exponent Hisyam Shamsudin wants a perfect Malaysia Day celebration when he makes his return at the ONE Championship’s Total Victory in Jakarta.
Hisyam, who will take on local fighter Jeremy Meciaz, said he will not be overawed in front of the hostile home crowd at the Jakarta Convention Centre on Sept 16.
“My prediction is that I will have my hand raised at the end of the fight. I look forward to winning on Malaysia Day,” said the 27-year-old Sabahan.
“Fighting in Indonesia is like a homecoming for me. My mother is from Indonesia and it’s really my second home, so I am truly excited and honoured to be fighting there.”
The former boxer made his debut with a loss to compatriot Muhd Aiman Raziz Affendy in the featherweight division at the ONE Championships’ Unbreakable Warriors on Sept 3.
The 27-year-old who trains at the Borneo Tribal Squad under coach AJ Pyro said he has been training hard to get back into the cage.
“It’s been a year since my last fight so I’m a bit rusty,” said the former WBF Asia-Pacific light heavyweight title-holder.
“I think it’s going to be a great fight. I can’t share my game plan yet but I promise to give a good fight.”
