KUCHING: For the second day running, a Pahang weightlifter has got herself into the record books in the Sukma weightlifting competition at UiTM Kota Samarahan.

Just a day after Mohamad Fazrul Azrie had smashed three national and two Sukma records in the men's 85kg category, his team-mate Fatin Amira Nasir stole the show by breaking two Sukma records in the women’s 69kg on Thursday.

The 21-year-old Fatin bagged two gold medals in the snatch and clean and jerk.

To top off Pahang’s prowess, Khairul Anuar Mohamad won the snatch and clean and jerk in the men’s 94kg category to take the east coast state’s weightlifting tally to seven golds.

Fatin cleared 75kg in the snatch to erase the 74kg mark set by Nur Khasida Halim in Pahang in 2012.

She then produced a 95kg lift to clinch the clean and jerk gold and rewrite Khairani Malik’s 92kg record set in Malacca in 2010.

“My target here was just to win the two gold medals. Breaking the two Games records are bonuses,” said Fatin.

“This is my third and final appearance in Sukma. I was determined to bow out with at least one gold medal as my previous best was winning a silver in the snatch in Perlis (2014).”

Although Khairul won two golds, he was disappointed at not breaking any records.

The 21-year-old’s 136kg and 167kg winning lifts in the snatch and clean and jerk were nowhere near the 141kg and 181kg records.

“I was confident of bagging the gold medals, but it was the records that I was eyeing,” admitted Khairul.

“I've missed my final chance to break a Sukma record. This will only push me to work harder.”

With six more weightlifting events left, Pahang are hoping to at least match their 11-gold feat in Perlis 2014.
