PETALING JAYA: The champions of the Standard Chartered Trophy Malaysia futsal tournament will get to play in the Grand Finals in Liverpool on May 21.
The participating nations at the Grand Finals will include teams from Bahrain, Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Kenya, South Korea, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nigeria, Singapore, Thailand and the United Kingdom.
The state level qualifying tournament (Road to Anfield) will be played over six legs, beginning in Selangor (March 10). The other legs are in Perak (March 16), Malacca (March 17) Penang (March 23), Johor (March 31), Pahang (April 6). Kuala Lumpur will host the Grand Finals on April 14.
The winning team at the KL Grand Finals will enjoy a four-day, all-expenses paid trip to Anfield, including a chance to watch a Liverpool home game while the runners-up and third-placed team will get RM3,000 and RM1,000 respectively. At each state-level competition, the top four teams will receive cash prizes – RM2,000 (champions), RM1,000 (runners-up) and RM800 (third and fourth).
The Road to Anfield futsal event was launched by football legend Datuk Soh Chin Aun and Sonia Wedrychowicz, the country head consumer marketing of Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia Bhd, at the Sports Planet Futsal Centre Ampang recently.
