KUALA LUMPUR: The Maybank Malaysian Open gave child golfers an opportunity to join a junior clinic with local ace Danny Chia and former Malaysian Open champions Matteo Manassero and Arjun Atwal.
Danny, Manassero and Arjun demonstrated their skills in putting, chipping and bunker shots at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club (KLGCC) on Friday.
More than 80 juniors participated in the clinic and 20 were selected for a five-hole round of golf at the KLGCC East Course.
The two coaching clinics showcased Maybank’s involvement in junior development.
The Maybank Junior Golf–National Camp was introduced in 2006 and has become an annual event, which gathers some of the nation’s best junior golfers.
Maybank is also heavily involved in the Maybank Junior Golf Champions Academy, which is a programme aimed at developing junior golf talents from the grassroots level.
Juniors selected for the comprehensive golf programme are fully sponsored by Maybank Junior Golf.
Danny was delighted to conduct the clinic for children.
“I love giving something back to the game and watching the kids brings me great joy. They are future golfers who will carry Malaysia’s flag when I am old,” he joked.
“I saw a couple of kids who have the potential to go far. With proper training and guidance, they can go far. It depends on their parents and their desire.”
