PETALING JAYA: Penang’s Mohd Faiz Subri will travel to the FIFA Football Awards ceremony in style.
The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) announced yesterday that they will sponsor four business class flight tickets for Faiz and his family to the Jan 9 awards ceremony in Zurich, Switzerland.
Winger Faiz will be joined by his 29-year-old wife Norzawanis Hashim and his two children – Akif Fayyadh, 4, and eight-month-old Aqil Zayyan – during the Jan 8-11 trip.
The 29-year-old Faiz is one of the three players shortlisted for the FIFA Puskas Award for the best goal in 2016. The other two are Brazilian Marlone and Venezuelan Daniuska Rodriguez.
FAM secretary-general Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin, who announced the ticket sponsorship yesterday, said FAM deputy president Datuk Seri Affandi Hamzah would accompany Faiz to the awards ceremony.
The Air Itam-born Faiz scored the wonder goal off a free-kick during Penang’s 4-1 Super League win over Pahang at the City Stadium in George Town on Feb 16.
The stunning strike earned him instant fame worldwide after videos of his outrageous free-kick goal went viral.
