PETALING JAYA: Super League champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) are out!

The Southern Tigers crashed out of the Malaysia Cup after being held to a 1-1 draw by Premier League outfits PKNS FC in their final Group C match at the Shah Alam Stadium.

PKNS got off to a perfect start when Matias Jadue hit the target as early as in the second minute before JDT striker Safee Sali equalised in the 40th minute.

JDT, who have an eye of their Super League top-of-the-table clash against Felda United in Jengka on Wednesday, fielded an-all local side against a PKNS side they had beaten in the FA Cup final in May.

And their second stringers failed to step up to the plate as the Southern Tigers bow out of the competition by finishing bottom of the group with seven points from five matches.

Despite the draw, PKNS will advance into the quarter-finals as group runners-up with eight points and will meet Group B winners Selangor in the first-leg of the last eight on Aug 28.

Dark horses Police emerged as Group C champions with 10 points after a sensational 2-1 win over front-runners Perak at the Hang Jebat Stadium in Malacca.

The Cops went ahead through Brazilian striker Guilherme de Paula in the 22nd minute before Mohd Fakrul Aiman Sidid doubled their lead in the 59th minute.

The Seladang’s Brazilian striker Elias Fernandes reduced the deficit in the 66th minute, but Police shored up their defence and held on to their lead to top the group.

Police will meet Group B runners-up Kelantan in the quarter-final on Aug 28.

In Group B, Selangor and Kelantan are through to the quarter-finals.

Selangor drew 1-1 with Kuala Lumpur at the Selayang Municipal Stadium while Kelantan lost 2-0 to Pahang at the Darul Makmur Stadium in Kuantan.

Defending champions Selangor top the group with 11 points, followed by Kelantan (10pts), Pahang (9pts) and KL (4pts).
