Felda’s rearguard out to thwart Pahang strikers

PETALING JAYA: Felda United centreback Yaroslav Krushelnitskiy has issued a warning to Pahang attacking duo Matias Conti and Dickson Nwakaeme ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup showdown: “Expect a torrid time!”

The 31-year-old Uzbek is confident that Felda’s back four, led by him, can deal with the threat posed by the duo.

He is aware that stopping Conti and Nwakaeme, who have scored 15 goals between them this season, could hold the key to victory in the final.

“Dickson and Matias are very good strikers ... but it’s not as if they’re unstoppable,” said Krushelnitskiy.

“I have studied their game on video ... I know how to deal with them.

“Our defensive line-up is new and is still a work in progress, but I think we have done really well so far ... we will come good eventually.”

Krushelnitskiy pointed out that although Pahang boast a fearsome attacking reputation, their shaky defence is their weak link.

And that’s something “The Fighters” hope to exploit in the final at the Shah Alam Stadium on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Felda skipper Shukor Adan is determined to lead the Premier League club side to their first FA Cup glory, having lifted the trophy twice with his previous teams.

The 35-year-old, who joined Felda from Armed Forces, won the FA Cup with Selangor in 2005 and Negeri Sembilan in 2010.

“This will be my fourth FA Cup final appearance ... I’d love to win it for a third time,” said the former national team captain.

“Nobody expected us to come this far but here we are ... we intend to be the first club to lift the FA Cup.”
