Easy win for 'old man' Chong Wei at Denmark Open

ODENSE: Lee Chong Wei marched into the men's singles second round at the Danisa Denmark Open with a 21-12, 21-16 win over Pablo Abian of Spain.

He will take on H.S. Prannoy of India at the Odense Sports Park on Thursday.

Chong Wei, who will turn 35 on Saturday, said revenge was on his mind after losing to the Indian in the second round of the Indonesian Open this year.

"I'm the old man here but I'll not make it easy on the youngsters. I'll give them a good fight," said Chong Wei.

"I lost to Prannoy at the Indonesian Open. It'll be tough but I'll be prepared to face him."

Seasoned campaigner Lee Hyun-il also got off to a brilliant start when he upset Chen Long of China 21-19, 22-20 to enter the second round. The Korean will take on Thailand's Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk for a place in the quarter-finals.

Reigning world champion Viktor Axelsen gave his home fans a treat by white-washing Takuma Ueda of Japan 21-8, 21-11 in just 32 minutes to set up a match against Wei Nan of Hong Kong.

Said Axelsen: "It's my home tournament and I want to win but it's still a long way to go. I want to stay focused in every match."

Meanwhile, Chow Mei Kuan-Lee Meng Yean kept the Malaysian flag flying high in the women's doubles when they defeated Ashwini Ponnappa-Reddy N. Sikki of India 15-21, 21-18, 23-21 to enter the second round.

They will face eighth seeds Naoko Fukuman-Kurumi Yonao of Japan next.
