KUALA LUMPUR: Promising young pair Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi won their first title at the Portuguese International badminton championships.

The world No. 155 defeated Vietnam’s Tuan Duc Do-Hong Nam Phan 21-17, 24-22 in the final at Caldas da Rainha on Sunday.

The pair, who formed their partnership last November, had already shown promise after an impressive outing at the Asian Team Championships in India last month.

And the 21-year-old Yew Sin is already eyeing another title.

“We are happy to win our first title even though we haven’t played many tournaments together,” said Yew Sin.

“After this we will head for the Romania International (March 17-20) and hopefully we’ll take home another trophy.”

It was double joy for Malaysia as women’s pair Goh Yea Ching-Peck Yen Wei defeated England’s Chloe Birch-Sarah Walker 21-9, 21-15 in the final.
