Independent shuttlers win big in Sydney

PETALING JAYA: Independent shuttlers Jagdish Singh and Roni Tan came up tops in New South Wales, Australia, to lift the men’s doubles title in the Sydney International tournament.

Jagdish-Roni defeated Liu Wei-chen-Han Yang-po of Taiwan 13-21, 21-17, 21-11 in the final.

The pair, who had upset second seeds Matthew Chau-Sawan Serasinghe in the quarter-finals, had to dig deep to defeat the Taiwanese pair in 51 minutes.

In men’s singles, independent shuttler and top seed Zulfadli Zulkiffli lost 11-21, 12-21 to second seed Nguyen Tien Minh in 32 minutes.
