Malaysia all out of Taiwan Open bar one

PETALING JAYA: National junior shuttler Cheam June Wei blew a chance to make the main draw on his first Grand Prix Gold appearance at the Taiwan Open.

In the men’s singles qualifying round on Tuesday, the 17-year-old Penangite cleared the first hurdle by ousting Heo Kwang-hee of South Korea, last year’s world junior champion, 21-13, 22-20 in the first round. He, however, fell short in the next round.
