Malaysia bag four gold medals at ISG


PALEMBANG: Malaysia clinched four golds, three silvers and a bronze in badminton at the Islamic Solidarity Games (ISG) here on Monday.

The mixed doubles pair of Mohd Lutfi Zalim Abdul Khalid-Amelia Alicia Ancelly won the gold by beating compatriots Wong Fai Yin-Shevon Lai Jemie 22-20, 28-26.

The second gold was won by men’s singles player Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub who beat compatriot Goh Giap Chin 21-12, 15-21, 21-12.

The men’s doubles pair of Low Juan Shen-Tan Yip Jiun won the third gold after beating Turkey’s Emre Arsian-Huseyin Oruc 21-16, 21-13.

Chow Mei Kuan-Shevon Lai Jemie won the fourth gold with a 21-14, 23-21 win over Indonesians Dini Fitri-Inten Ratnasari 21-14, 23-21. Malaysia also picked up a bronze through Amelia-Soong Fie Cho.

To date, Malaysia have won 26 golds, 20 silvers and 25 bronzes to lie third in the medal standings. Hosts Indonesia lead with a 34-33-33 haul followed by Egypt with a 26-25-29 total. — Bernama
