AFTER my visit to the dentist one Sunday morning, I decided to stop at New Holly Wood for my favourite hor hee (kuey teow soup with fish balls and fish cakes). The hor hee stall is only open on Sunday and usually attracts a lot of people.
Restoran New Holly Wood in Jalan Lee Kwee Foh, Canning Garden, is a no-pork Chinese-operated eatery with multi-racial stalls selling various types of Chinese, Indian, Malay and Western cuisines. It was considered a halal eating place even before the establishment of Jakim and halal certificates. Many Muslims come to New Holly Wood and it is a common sight to see Malays eating char kuey teow and chee cheong fun from the Chinese stalls.
