THERE is much public debate about the dire conditions of back lanes and alleys in many commercial areas. It has reached a worrying stage despite relentless criticism by the public. Over the years, a lot of things have been put on the table by regulatory bodies, including NGOs, in an attempt to find solutions to the deplorable situation. It is increasingly evident that we are fighting a losing battle. And regulatory authorities have not shown enough in finding long-term solutions.
New challenges have come in with the uncovering of piping installations in the drains, and not forgetting the perennial problem of rodents and Aedes mosquitoes, which could bring infectious diseases.
