I’VE always enjoyed the period between Christmas and New Year, a span of eight days which brings a year to an end and signals the beginning of another. In the next couple of days, that span will be relived with celebration, anticipation and contemplation.
Most of the people in my neighbourhood have children who either work or study in the cities, so this is the period when they usually come home and spend quality time with their families. Quite a number of my neighbours are of the Christian faith so the sight of Santa, the Christmas tree decoration, the melody of the carols and the festive cheer all enliven the atmosphere.
