MALAYSIA has a significant history of hosting refugees and asylum seekers fleeing persecution in their home country. Today, there are 150,200 refugees and asylum seekers in Malaysia from various countries including Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Yemen, pending their resettlement to a third country.
The majority of refugees here are Rohingyas who are not recognised as citizens by their country, Myanmar, and continue to face a variety of appalling persecutions that are well-documented.
