A STUDENT is on her way home from school on her motorcycle, with her stepsister riding pillion. A car brushes past, the girls fall, and a lorry runs over the rider.

Her legs have to be amputated, one above the ankle and the other below the knee. The girl, now little more than a whimpering child in terrible pain, asks in all innocence: “Will my legs grow back?”
