SINGAPORE: A Singaporean woman died after diving at Indonesia's Bali island on Wednesday morning.

Dr Wong Yu Yi had been at Blue Lagoon - located in eastern Bali's port town of Padangbai - with a group of divers, Indonesia's BaliPost reported on Wednesday.

They were diving at a depth of about 20m at 9.12am when she gestured for help. The dive leader led her to the surface, but she was unconscious by then.

The 48-year-old was rushed to hospital but declared dead on arrival. Local police declined comment when asked about the cause of death.

Dr Wong had worked as an aesthetic doctor at Novena Medical Centre, her colleague Alicia Lau told The Straits Times on Friday.

Novena Medical Centre is one of the clinics under clinic chain CSK Clinics.

Lau, an executive at CSK, said Dr Wong had worked there for about a year and a half. "We just knew about it yesterday, my boss informed all of us," she said.

According to her Facebook profile and her profile on healthcare website Practo.com, Dr Wong studied at the National University of Singapore, National Junior College and CHIJ Saint Nicholas Girls' School.

A spokesman for the Singapore's Foreign Ministry told The Straits Times that MFA and the Singapore Embassy in Jakarta rendered consular assistance to the deceased's next-of-kin.

"We extend our condolences to the bereaved family," said the spokesman.

In July, Singaporean diver Rinta Paul Mukkam went missing during a diving trip off Indonesia's Komodo Island, sparking a 10-day search operation.

Her body has yet to be found. - The Straits Times/Asia News Network
