Kota Belud PKR chief wants party to reconsider Nurul's resignation

KOTA KINABALU: Kota Belud PKR division chief, Mustapha Sakmud is appealing to the party central leadership to reconsider Nurul Izzah Anwar’s (pic) resignation as PKR vice president.

Mustapha said the Permatang Pauh MP was among the new leaders who were seen to have a great future in politics.

“We have fought so hard to make sure she (Nurul) won in the past party election as vice president. She has so much to contribute,” he said.

He also said that the criticism by PKR central committee member Latheefa Koya against the party president’s decision was quite harsh.

Latheefa said there was "cronyism and nepotism" in the recent appointment of state leaders in the party by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and that the appointments announced were "disturbing and a cause for grave concern".

Mustapha said she should be fair when making a statement, as Nurul’s appointment was based on merit and what she had done all these years for the party.

“Her contributions are far more important and more significant than family tie issues,” he said.

He also called on Nurul to rethink her decision to quit the post, as the current political situation needed capable leaders.

“We need leaders who are able to lead, who can handle situations and instill a sense of confidence in the government among the rakyat,” Mustapha said.

He said the party president should not bow to pressure given by anyone, and to take action against troublemakers and those who did not respect the voice of the majority.
